Tory Lanez Charged In Shooting Of Megan Thee Stallion
Canadian rapper Tory Lanez faces two crimes while filming hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion on July 12th.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office on Thursday accused Lanez - real name Daystar Peterson - of counting a crime involving a semiautomatic firearm while carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Prosecutors said the shooting occurred after Lanez got into an argument with a 24-year-old victim in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills.
If convicted, according to Variety, he faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months behind bars.
The announcement did not identify Megan Thee Stallion by name, but said a female victim got out of a vehicle before Lanez shot her feet multiple times and wounded her, according to the New York Daily News.
The details in the district attorney's announcement were in line with allegations Stallion made on Instagram Live in August.
“Yeah ... Tory shot me. You shot me and made your publicist and your people lie to these blogs, "said the 25-year-old rapper in an Instagram live video. "Stop lying. Why lie? I don't understand."
The singer said she did not tell the local Los Angeles police what happened in the shootings because she was afraid of the legal implications and fear for her safety.
"I didn't tell the police because I didn't want us to stop having problems," she said.
Lanez did not comment on the charges.
Last month he released a rap album that, according to TMZ, proclaimed his innocence.
