Barker Wellness kicks off this week with products that target three main areas of focus: sleep, maintenance and recovery. The range of products includes THC-free tinctures, a pain reliever cream, and "snap-packs" (think pre-measured tinctures in individually-wrapped squeeze packs) that can be used individually or at the same time (a press release says the products work) in harmony with the well-being of the body and to promote spirit ”).
You can find the full range of products at Barker Wellness here
Barker says he first started working on the wellness brand two years ago after spending another busy year with Blink-182, in addition to dozens of live performances with other artists. "As a symptom of being in the music room and only touring, I always took a CBD bath or an Epsom salt bath or took a ton of CBD after shows," says the drummer, "and I noticed that recovery was a problem, especially touring for months [and] five to six shows a week. And the process was as follows: "How do I feel about recovery?" I've tried everything from cryotherapy to massage therapy, "Barker recalls." But CBD was the best result I've had. "
While finding good pain relief and recovery products was important, "especially after an outdoor show," Barker also credits CBD for helping him address restlessness and insomnia problems after years of falling asleep
“I used to have trouble sleeping,” he says, “and I took a ton of melatonin, valerian tea, Tylenol PM, or Nyquil. And before that it was actually Ambien, ”he admits. "I was addicted to it at some point."
The musician says that "the adrenaline rushing after a show or being in the studio all night would keep him busy, and while he's had a lot of vices in the past to turn to," Barker said he did I actively looked for "natural ways" to relax. “Then he discovered CBD.
While many new cannabinoid companies are primarily promoting CBD, Barker Wellness formulas contain some of the lesser-known but equally potent cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, and CBC. The full combination of these cannabinoids along with herbs and natural ingredients makes its products highly effective in tackling everything from stress to sore muscles.
Barker, who has been a vegetarian since his youth and went vegan shortly after a 2008 plane crash to refocus and heal his body, said it was also important to him to develop a line of products that reflected his values. With that in mind, everything in Barker Wellness is vegan and cruelty free. Everything is also made with natural ingredients, from soothing cucumber extract in the pain reliever cream to ashwagandha and reishi mushroom extracts in the recovery tincture.
Barker said he spent hours with researchers learning about dosages and the response of various cannabinoids on the body before narrowing down the line of products to things that people around him would actually use. "My son is 17 years old and likes to use the pain reliever cream when he exercises like boxing or jumping rope or muay thai," says Barker. "The cream is so good when your body is feeling sore."
And while keeping up to date with the latest relationship rumors, the musician revealed that "everyone around me has basically tried [the products]," allowing friends and family to help him choose the essential oils and oils used in the products Favorite fragrances helped.
Barker understands that there are still a lot of misunderstandings about CBD - "My dad is in this pain, but it took him a while to even get the idea [of CBD] up," says the drummer - but Barker is both for fans as well as fans excited skeptics are trying out his new brand to see the benefits of cannabinoids for themselves. The musician had offers to put his name behind a full cannabis brand, but Barker says it's important to start with fully legal CBD to make it accessible and accessible to all. "That's why I approached it from the wellness arena instead of doing something for Stoner," he says, adding that he doesn't rule out expanding the brand in the future.
And while it's only available online right now, according to Barker, his goal is to expand the brand to reach as many people as possible. “In what is perfect world for me, I want the product to be available everywhere from places like Erewhon to Sephora to CVS,” he says. "This is not a one-time Band Aid project," he adds. "I really want this to help people."
After a stressful year sparked by a global pandemic, the freshly minted entrepreneur says Barker Wellness is not just about improving physical health, but also mental health. The musician credits his new wellness brand for helping him find clarity and purpose after the music venues closed and the tour indefinitely postponed due to Covid-19.
"Obviously it was a terrible time and it's unfortunate how many people got sick and how many people lost loved ones," he says. "I think for those of us who have either got over Covid or stayed healthy, now is a great time to be creative or do projects that you normally wouldn't have done because you've been so busy getting to move, travel or touring. And I just have the feeling that in a time like this you can either drive or be convinced. "
"I've always said you should never be bored," he adds. “You could be in better shape; you could be smarter; You could be better at your instrument; you could read a book. You never stop learning and creating - that's what I'm trying to do right now. "
