Truck carrying propane tanks flips, explodes into fireball on New York City expressway
A truck carrying propane tanks went up in flames on an expressway in New York City early Tuesday, firefighters said.
The explosion occurred in Queens on the Long Island Expressway around midnight after the truck tipped over when it hit a barrier, the New York Fire Department said.
FNDY didn't say why the truck lost control, but NBC New York and the New York Post reported that police officers said the truck likely slipped on black ice. The fire department said in an Instagram post that there were about 300 20-pound propane tanks on the truck, most of which were on fire.

The department said the crews "arrived on site and found heavy fire and exploding cylinders in the air".
25 firefighters and 106 firefighters responded and had the fire under control by 1:30 a.m., FDNY said. There was a non-life-threatening injury, according to the department's Instagram post.
The video of the truck on fire on social media showed massive flames on the expressway as cars slowly passed on the other side.
The city's emergency management notification system announced in a tweet shortly after midnight on Tuesday that all lanes on the expressway heading west were closed. The lanes were reopened at 4 a.m.
