Trump administration officials subpoenaed in probe into alleged 'extensive and dangerous' political interference at CDC

The Secretary for Health and Human Services, Alex Azar, and the CDC Director, Robert Redfield, were both summoned by a House subcommittee investigating allegations of political interference with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The House Select subcommittee on the coronavirus crisis on Monday called Azar and Redfield over documents previously requested. Committee chair, Rep. James Clyburn (DS.C.) said this was "necessary because the Select subcommittee's investigation has shown that efforts to disrupt science, the work at CDC has been far more extensive and dangerous than known so far, "reports the Wall Street Journal.
Earlier this month, Clyburn said that a CDC official, Dr. Charlotte Kent, who accused investigators of Redfield ordering the deletion of an email stating that a Trump administration agent tried to disrupt a scientific report amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Axios reports. And on Monday, Clyburn said the subcommittee had received documents showing that "representatives of the Trump administration have attempted to amend or block at least 13 scientific reports on" COVID-19 over a four month period ".
A spokesman for HHS had previously objected to the Subcommittee's "characterization of the conversation with Dr. Kent", calling it "irresponsible" according to the journal. Clyburn said the subpoena required Redfield and Azar to submit the requested documents by December 30th.
