Trump campaign names Hogan Gidley as new press secretary
The Trump campaign has appointed Hogan Gidley as the new spokesman, replacing Kayleigh McEnany, who became White House press spokesman in April. Gidley is currently the deputy chief press officer for the White House.
"Hogan Gidley has been with the President for three years and is now involved in the fight for his re-election," said campaign manager Brad Parscale in a statement. "He is a talented lawyer and defender of the President and his policies and is not afraid to fight with enemy reporters and television hosts. Hogan is a great addition to the team and makes us even stronger."
President Trump praised Gidley on Tuesday, calling him "a strong, loyal and trustworthy member of the team". Mr Trump said Gidley would leave the White House on July 1st. Before working in the White House, Gidley was a Republican advisor and contributed to CBS News.
Gidley's move to the campaign was announced after the president's first campaign rally since March in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday. The rally was attended less than expected.

CBS News reports that the campaign is reassessing the next steps based on the Saturday rally based on talks with several current and former officials, with voter turnout being seen as an important factor. The "reassessment" is also part of a larger, ongoing restructuring of the campaign.
While Saturday's "disappointing" show put more pressure on top campaign officials, this pressure is not entirely new.
A former senior Trump campaign official said campaign manager Brad Parscale was in a "terrible loss of confidence."
