Trump-supporting retirees considered COVID a hoax — then Trump himself was infected

Despite the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 1 million people worldwide and over 212,800 people in the US - according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore - many Republican supporters of President Donald Trump continue to insist that the threat be exaggerated the mainstream media. Journalists Francisco Alvarado and Kelly Weill, in an article published October 9 in the Daily Beast, take a look at an elderly community in Florida where the pandemic was widely viewed as a democratic joke - that is, until Trump himself postulated positive Hospitalized tests for the COVID-19 coronavirus. And now some of the retirees are concerned about a visit from Vice President Mike Pence.
This Saturday, October 10th, Pence will visit The Villages, an old age community in Sumpter County, Florida. Pence, who debated Senator Kamala Harris, the ally of former Vice President Joe Biden's October 7, has not tested positive for COVID-19. But Alvarado and Weill point out that in the face of Trump's illness, some of the retirees are afraid of being anywhere near pence.
Chris Stanley, president of The Villages Democratic Club, told the beast, "The virus was joking here until Trump got it. The other day they held a prayer vigil - and for the first time they wrote in large print." You have to wear a mask. 'I looked at the webcam and didn't see a lot of masks but they now seem to accept that this is not a democratic joke at all. "
Alvarado and Weill note that in The Villages "an overwhelming majority of the 132,000 residents are white, Conservative voters".

Florida, with 29 votes, is one of the major swing states where Trump and Biden will fight aggressively until Election Day, Tuesday November 3rd. Many recent polls have shown the President's race in Florida is tight and Biden is ahead by single digits. Polls released in October found Biden to lead with 4% (CNBC / Change Research and Reuters / Ipsos) or 6% (University of North Florida). However, in a poll published October 7 by Quinnipiac, Biden was ahead by 11% - and in a poll published by Fox 35 Orlando / Insider Advantage the following day, Trump was ahead by 3%.
Trump is hardly the only Republican in Trumpworld who recently tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. Others included First Lady Melania Trump, White House Press Secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, longtime Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway, former New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, Republican National Committee Chair, Ronna Romney McDaniel, and Trump's campaign manager, Bill Stepien. And the fact that so many Trump allies have been infected with COVID-19 is not going to be lost to retirees at The Villages.
