In the statement, Trump said Cassidy "begged" for his support in 2020 and used it everywhere to win re-election.
"Now crazy Bill Cassidy can't walk down the street in Louisiana, a state I won by almost 20 points," the statement said on Monday. "He couldn't even be voted dog catcher today, the big people curse him."
Trump responded to a Cassidy interview with Axios in which he criticized Trump's record and said he would not vote for him if he ran again.
Cassidy noted that with Trump, the GOP "lost the House, Senate and presidency in four years. Elections are about winning".
Later in the interview, Cassidy, the doctor, said he would like age tests for aging leaders in all three branches of government.
"It's usually noticeable," said Cassidy of the cognitive decline in politicians.
"So anyone in a position of responsibility who might be on this slope is worrying. And that's what I say as a doctor."
Trump will be 78 years old in 2024. The current president, Joe Biden, is 78 years old. Allegations of cognitive decline, usually resorting to verbal slip-ups and no other evidence, are a common source of Republican attack.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 81 years old and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is 79 years old.
Cassidy was one of seven Republican Senators who voted in his impeachment trial to convict Trump for alleging he contributed to the January 6 riot. He is one of a small group of GOP lawmakers who openly opposed the former president after the violence.
Trump has endorsed Republican detractors' main challengers, including MP Liz Cheney, for the past few weeks.
For months, Trump, who is still hugely popular with the Republican base, has been stoking rumors that he will return to the White House in 2024.
He is considered a favorite as a Republican candidate if he runs.
