Twitter Did Not Love 'Wonder Woman 1984'

After a long wait, Wonder Woman hit the WarnerMedia streaming service and theaters on Christmas Day in 1984. As The Wrap notes, it will be the first Warner Bros. film to be released on a streaming site at the same time as the theater's release date, at no additional cost to viewers. This is exciting news, but after seeing the movie yesterday, some fans aren't overly enthusiastic.
In the sequel to the first film that intrigued audiences in June 2017, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine are back as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) and Steve Trevor. Kristen Wiig is on board as the villain Cheetah and Pedro Pascal plays Max Lord.
And although Patty Jenkins had a box office hit with her first version of the Wonder Woman story, Twitter is full of tweets that don't have a positive opinion on this second company.
Jill Lepore, author of The Secret History of Wonder Woman (2014), wrote in The New Yorker that "the new film about a female icon ignores her story as a female rebel". Lepore says the franchise as a whole could pay more attention to women's history, especially during the pivotal eras these films are set in:
"Patty Jenkins seems interested in history. She made her first Wonder Woman movie during World War I. And she made this new movie in Orwellian 1984. But she doesn't seem to care about women's history at all: It is not featured in either of her two "Wonder Woman" films, although both play at major turning points in that story and although the story of Wonder Woman, the comic and the character is inextricably linked to the long, wretched and unfinished struggle for the political equality for women. "
But not everyone has delved into Wonder Woman's deep story as a character (Lepore's book is great read, by the way) and didn't hate the movie.
In order to. I think it's up to you, because Twitter is very, well, Twitter about this movie. When you see it, you will see at least some incredible leg warmers, big hair, and chunky jewelry.
