Two House Democrats cut ads for Liz Cheney in Wyoming

Two House Democrats are urging Wyoming Democrats to switch parties in the state's upcoming primary to boost the chances of Rep. Liz Cheney (R), one of former President Trump's top targets this cycle.
"You may be a little surprised that I support Liz Cheney in her attempt to continue representing Wyoming in the US House of Representatives, but principle must always come before politics and none have shown more honor, integrity and courage than she." , he told Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) in a new ad.
"Liz Cheney and I don't agree on everything," Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) said in his ad. "But we are on the same side today, fighting for a country where we resolve our differences through votes, not violence."
The ads are running on at least Facebook, and the platform said they're paid for by Wyomingite's Defending Freedom and Democracy, an organization that has documented $475,000 in donations to the Federal Elections Commission to boost Cheney's campaign.
Cheney faces a tough re-election campaign in next week's Republican primary when she faces Trump-backed Harriet Hageman.
The congresswoman has drawn the ire of Trump and his allies for voting for his second impeachment and serving as vice chair of the House selection committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
She has adamantly blamed Trump for the events of January 6 and has repeatedly called him unfit for the post.
Malinowski and Phillips are the latest numbers urging Democrats in the state vote in the Republican primary to push Cheney across the finish line as sparse in-race polls show Hageman is way ahead.
"Patriots will risk anything to protect our country, and Liz Cheney did that," Phillips said. "It is far more important than any political differences we might have, so I urge you, please consider temporarily switching parties and voting for Liz Cheney on or before August 16."
Both congressmen directly mentioned Trump by name in their ads, with Malinowski calling him an "extremist."
"She had the guts to put country over party for all of us," Malinowski said of Cheney in the ad. “Wyoming Democrats can also put the country above the party by registering to vote them in the Republican primary. I hope you do."
