UAE official says Turkish base in Qatar destabilises region

DUBAI (Reuters) - The Turkish army in Qatar is an element of instability in the Gulf region, said a senior UAE official, adding that it contributed to the negative polarization.
The United Arab Emirates and its Arab allies have boycotted Qatar since mid-2017, urging Doha to shut down a Turkish military base to end the divide. Abu Dhabi and Ankara also support the opposing sides in the Libya conflict.
"The Turkish military presence in the Arabian Gulf is an emergency," said Anwar Gargash, the United Arab Emirates' foreign minister, on Twitter on Saturday.
"It increases the polarization and does not take into account the sovereignty of the states and the interests of the Gulf states and their people."
The United States, which seeks a unified golf front against Iran, has tried to resolve the dispute over which Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and non-Gulf Egypt cut political, trade and travel links with Qatar because of the Allegations that they supported militants and are cozy have interrupted up to the regional enemy Iran.
Doha, which is home to the region's largest U.S. military base, denies the allegations, saying the boycott is aimed at undermining its sovereignty.
On September 9, Middle East State Department senior diplomat David Schenker said there could be some progress in resolving the rift in weeks, citing signs of "negotiating flexibility" ahead of the US elections .
Diplomats and Gulf sources have confirmed talks between Riyadh and Doha after negotiations that broke off earlier this year, but there were still no signs of a breakthrough.
In a documentary recently released on Al Jazeera television, the Qatar Defense Minister accused boycott nations of plotting to invade Qatar, an accusation they had denied in the past on a camel ".
