The recommendations came within hours of starting work on distributing the Moderna vaccine, the second to be approved by the CDC.

This group is expected to be vaccinated in February.

"Basic workers are at high risk due to their exposure in the performance of their jobs as they are in contact with others. Preventing disease in essential workers can reduce its transmission to others," said Dr. Kathleen Dooling, one of the senior doctors who decided on the recommendations.
The next group to receive vaccines are people age 65 and over, as well as people between the ages of 16 and 64 with diseases that put them at risk, and another tranche of key workers in a number of industries including media, law, construction and logistics.
Operation Warp Speed, the facility established by the Trump administration, expects to distribute 20 million doses of the vaccine by the end of the month.
By the end of February, 180 million doses are expected to be given - enough to vaccinate 90 million people.
