Vanna White Explains How She Keeps 'Wheel of Fortune' Role From Becoming 'Monotonous'

40 years on the job is impressive!
After 40 years in the same job, it may come as a surprise to hear that Vanna White still finds her job exciting.
While many people might find the now-ritual routine monotonous (or shall we say boring), White admitted she has a few tricks up her sleeve that make every day on set special.
"I'm wearing a different dress, we have different puzzles," she told Yahoo! Reporter. "So I treat every show like it's brand new and it's so much fun," she explained.

The show looks brand new again this year. Thanks to the addition of a giant LED puzzle board and other specials to celebrate the game show's 40th on-air anniversary.
Aside from the technological upgrades, some parts of the show will remain, such as the presence of co-host Pat Sajak and White's iconic dresses and trendy looks - something the host said is not her fault.
“On TV I dress glamorously and all that. But when I go home I wear sweatpants and jeans and tennis shoes — but I'm still the same person inside," she told the outlet.
“We have seen a lot of changes over the past 40 years. I wore everything from the big shoulder pads to the skimpy dresses,” she recalls. “The designers send their newest clothes every year and I wear them. So it's really up to them. It's her style and I model her clothes. So the pressure is really not on me - I am who I am on TV. When I'm not on TV you'll only see me in jeans and no makeup."
White joined the show as a host in 1982 after auditioning for the role alongside 200 other applicants. According to the official Wheel of Fortune website, showrunner Merv Griffin chose white because "she turned the letters best."
Since joining the show, White has been honored with her own Hollywood Walk of Fame star, raised over $2 million for St. Jude's and other charities, was inducted into the NBA Broadcasting Hall of Fame and appeared in over 7,000 episodes on.
Wheel of Fortune airs weekdays at 7 p.m. EUROPEAN DAYLIGHT TIME. Check your local listings for transfer options.
