Vermont native murdered in Texas ahead of mountain bike competition

A Vermont native and Dartmouth College graduate who was a competitive skier in college before becoming a national mountain biker was murdered in Texas.
Austin Police say Anna Moriah Wilson. 25, was shot multiple times in an Austin home on Wednesday, May 11. A friend had called 911 and said she found Wilson bleeding and unconscious. Police say they have identified a "person of interest" but no arrests have been made.
"There is no reason to suspect any threat to the public and the shooting does not appear to be an indiscriminate act," according to an Austin Police Department post.
Cycling magazine Velo reports that Wilson was at the Gravel Locos race in Austin, where she was considered the favorite to win. Velo reports that Wilson had emerged as the dominant gravel and mountain biker.
Wilson was from East Burke, Vermont, according to her profile on Dartmouth College's athletic department website. Wilson was a 2019 graduate who competed in alpine competitions after attending Burke Mountain Academy.

While the tragic loss of Moriah is unfathomable, we want everyone to join us in celebrating her life, her achievements and her love for others..." We hope everyone will feel her passion and support as she pursues her own dreams. Your spirit will be with you all, during training and every day of the race. Always working tirelessly to achieve her goals, we knew she was pursuing what she loved. We will miss her terribly and know everyone mourns her loss with us.”
