Verstappen: "No sense" in pondering F1 future after Honda

The Dutchman has a deal with Red Bull that runs until the end of 2023 and Honda's decision to leave F1 has sparked speculation that Verstappen could be induced to look elsewhere.
While there is uncertainty about Red Bull's engine plans from early 2022, Verstappen said it would be stupid to worry about what to do so far.
"I'm just focusing on this season and the next. I think that's the most important thing," said Verstappen. "What happens after that is so far anyway that it doesn't make sense to think about it yet."
While Honda's exit has left question marks about Red Bull's ability to become a long-term challenger for Mercedes, Verstappen still has full confidence in what can be done before the end of 2021.
When asked whether the decision affected his trust in Red Bull, Verstappen said: “Not at the moment. I mean, we'll be driving them for another year and a half, and after that we have the new regulations on the cars that come in.
“There are so many unknowns right now that it doesn't make sense to think about them. Anyway, I just focus on what I have to do and try to get the car on as fast as possible with an engine in the back.
“I hope I won't end up like Fred Flintstone having to pedal myself. It's quite physically demanding I think! And then we'll see each other again after the next year. "

While a change of engine suppliers for 2022 is not ideal for Red Bull, as it uses the possibilities of the new F1 rule package, the team should not be hindered too much, according to Verstappen, as it has experience with changing engine partners.
"We don't know at the moment what it will look like," he said. “But I don't necessarily see it as a negative. Let's find out.
“We learned a lot from the various engine manufacturers that we have had so far. And right now I think it's all a little bit unknown about what we're going to do. Do we take another engine? I dont know."
