Washington Post Thinks Gov. Ron DeSantis Just Sank To A ‘Jaw-Dropping’ New Low
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has plunged to new depths, argued the Washington Post editorial team in a critical essay published Tuesday.
The newspaper's board of directors said the Donald Trump loyalist had sunk to "a mind-boggling level of cynicism" by associating with misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines, fighting masking requirements and announcing fines on local governments that impose vaccine mandates on their employees.
DeSantis is trying to present itself "as a defender of personal freedom," said the board. But he is actually only adding "to vaccine reluctance, which has become a major barrier to greater immunity and ending the pandemic," he added.
"Mr. DeSantis has national political ambitions. But what he shows here is blatant opportunism and disregard for the common good," concluded the board.
"While fueling the ignorance and misguided impulses of some in the Republican base, he is acting against the tools needed to save lives and stop the pandemic."
