Needless to say, after a jaw-dropping season seven finale in April, fans are poised for a closure. Elizabeth, who played between Lucas and Nathan all season, apparently confirmed that her heart was on Nathan after "hearing him around the world." This was her natural reaction after Nathan appeared safe and sound despite rumors that he had been shot dead in an altercation with a prisoner. Just a few moments earlier, however, she went on a "non-date" with Lucas.
The finale ultimately left fans with one big question: will Elizabeth choose to be with Nathan or Lucas?
In the run-up to season eight, Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth on the show, promised fans that "there will be romance in season eight". At one point she even joked that Elizabeth "doesn't have to hug each other much longer ...?"
Meanwhile, show artist Brian Bird kept stirring the pot and assured Hearties in a cryptic tweet last week that season eight "decisions will be made in Hope Valley."
This, of course, is exactly what Hearties wants to hear, which is why many took to Twitter to share their guesses about who Elizabeth will pick. "If this means that Elizabeth chose Nathan, I will thank you in advance ..." one wrote. "I suspect Nathan will be a happier man this season. I'm looking forward to the new season and all of the exciting new storylines," said another.
While fans seem split over who Elizabeth should end up with, it's clear that everyone is happy that the love triangle is finally coming to an end. "Thank God for that. The triangle has to be put in its box once and for all," commented a fan, summarizing the feelings of Hearties everywhere.
While it's unclear how early in the season fans get responses, there's a good chance Elizabeth's decision will be made in the early episodes. It's promising, especially since Brian mentioned earlier that season eight will start with a "boom".
