Kerr believes Gentry brings what kings need to insult, which originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
There aren't many people in the NBA who Steve Kerr respects more than Alvin Gentry. It's no surprise that Kerr believes Gentry would be a great addition to the Kings coaching team, but what exactly will the seasoned basketball spirit bring to Sacramento?
"Every day that Alvin laughs and smiles, he has a great perspective," Kerr told The Athletic's Jason Jones. “So you never come to work and you see Alvin in a bad mood. So when you come to work and he has that smile on his face and he is telling a funny story and everyone is preparing to practice, he rises to a group and that's really important because it's a stressful environment that we all work in . "
After five seasons as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, Gentry will join Luke Walton as assistant coach for the 2020-21 season. He replaces Igor Kokoskov, who left the kings to take over the European power plant Fenerbahçe in the summer. Gentry and Walton also have history together.
Both spent the 2014-15 season together at Kerr's Warriors when they won an NBA championship.
Gentry has a 510-595 record as head coach, including stints at the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Pelicans. Kerr believes his previous experience with heads like Doug Collins and Mike D'Antoni will be perfect for Walton and the Kings.
"That's what you're looking for in a staff, these historical connections and how they can blend together," said Kerr. “And Alvin is just very good at making those connections and helping an offense find a really good rhythm and groove.
"I think he'll bring that to Luke and Sacramento."

The Kings long playoff drought continued this season. Walton certainly hopes that Gentry's experience and ability to connect with young players will help. The health of players like De'Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley will of course also be crucial.
With the Warriors looking to compete again with a sane Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, the Kings try to get over the hill and Kerr believes Gentry is the perfect man for the job.
