'When Calls the Heart' Fans Are Begging for Jack to "Come Back" to the Show

Daniel Lissing, who played Jack on When Calls the Heart, left the show after five seasons.
Fans are still broken after his character's tragic death in the season five finale.
While the rest of the cast continue to support Lissing's decision, fans are hoping his time in Hope Valley is not over yet.
Hope Valley has changed a lot in the seven (soon eight) seasons of When Calls the Heart. Since the show's debut in 2014, there have been character exits, scrapped storylines, and a confusing love triangle that still keeps fans busy. Still, Jack Thornton's death at the end of season five remains one of the most talked about moments - albeit three years later.

Daniel Lissing, the actor who played Jack, made the decision to part ways with When Calls the Heart early in season five, quoting on a Facebook Live as saying that "I got circumstances where I had to go". Both Hallmark Channel and the rest of the cast were "nothing but supportive" so they made sure his character got the degree he deserved. In the season five finale episode, Jack was tragically killed in a landslide while on an assignment with a group of recruits. Just before leaving, he wrote a letter to his wife Elizabeth (played by Erin Krakow) fearing what the assignment would mean. It read:
"My dearest Elizabeth, I am writing a letter that I hope you never have to read. If so, you know I am not coming home. Comfort yourself that I will watch over you for the rest of your days . I will always be with you in spirit. But you have to promise me one thing, Elizabeth: You will open your heart to love again. Know that I want nothing more than your happiness. You are the perfect woman. You have me what shown It feels like you are really loved. For that I am eternally grateful. Sincerely, Jack. "
Since then, Hope Valley's folks have kept teasing Jack, reminding fans of the true love that once existed. Because of this, many still hope that Jack will return somehow - as a ghost, in a flashback scene, or in any other way that is deemed appropriate. In one of Erin's recent Instagram posts with her co-star Pascale Hutton, fans expressed how much they missed the former Mountie.

Some mentioned that Elizabeth and Jack's romance went way beyond anything she has experienced with Nathan or Lucas, the two men she is currently choosing between. "Everyone wants Jack back. He's the heart of WCTH with Erin Krakow ... one of those fictional couples you can't forget," someone commented. "I don't care how they do it, but Jack has to come back. His 'married to Elizabeth' time was too short. It was definitely a shock," one wrote.
Other Hearties reminded fans that last season some Mounties - Nathan in particular - were alive and well. "Daniel Lissing has chosen to move on and is not coming back, except maybe in a flashback. We all need to move forward and enjoy our new characters and storylines," wrote one. "Jack isn't coming back. Maybe in Elizabeth's dream. He's dead - and he (Dan) has decided to leave the show. Forget him. We have a great Mountie now - Nathan," repeated another person.
Even though Elizabeth has someone in her sights (whether Lucas or Nathan, that's up for debate), Erin still misses working with Daniel as much (if not more) as the fans miss Jack. Shortly after he left, she was thinking with Entertainment Tonight about what his exit meant for the show - and more importantly, "I was just sad that Dan left. So that's the bottom line: We were all very sad about it, and that it's tough, "she mused. "Dan has been my partner in crime for five years in many ways and one of my greatest partners on the scene, and I will just really miss him."
But hey, at least there's a glimmer of hope that Jack might return in an episode or two. Perhaps as a ghost haunting Hope Valley?
