Why Ellen Pompeo Has "No Desire" to Continue Acting After Grey's Anatomy Ends
Warning: The latest Ellen Pompeo career update could break your heart.
Grey's Anatomy star, who plays Meredith Gray on the popular television show, recently spoke about why she's "not feeling like" getting into acting once the long-running ABC series is over. But before you call the paramedics, Ellen doesn't hang up her white coat.
Speaking on the podcast, Ladies First with Laura Brown, the 51-year-old actress stated that she's just planning ahead and hoping to add to her résumé once Grey's Anatomy officially ends.
"I'm not saying I'll never act again. I'm very good at it, but I'm not very excited about continuing my acting career," Ellen said on the July 27 episode. “I'm more entrepreneurial at this stage. I look forward to investing in companies and starting a business.

Additionally, Ellen stated that working in Hollywood isn't as glamorous as it seems - which makes taking on future projects all the more attractive.
“Sitting around in caravans, traveling around, filming in Atlanta, filming in Vancouver,” she said, “I don't feel like sitting in caravans at 11am and waiting to shoot scenes and let ADs knock on my door and tell me when I can have lunch. "
She added, "It's for the young at heart. It's for the youth!"

For some reason Ellen didn't branch earlier? The Station 19 star admitted she was reluctant to take risks early in her career. So she played it safe.
“When I was in my thirties, I saw myself in a box. That's why I stayed on the show because I said, 'Holy shit. If I can negotiate my contract again and get out, I'll be almost 40 years old. I'm super typed in this role. I'm 40 so I'll never work again, '"she explained." Fifteen years ago, the thought of being 40 as an actress was over. "
But fast forward to now, and she's tired of holding back.
"Now that I'm 50, I don't see myself that way at all," she noted. "I think ... that I can do whatever I want, or I honestly can't do anything."

If anything, she is already in the process of releasing an exciting new project: her Tell Me podcast.
"[I thought], 'Let me go out and do something I've never done before and try something completely different for absolutely no reason other than try something different because I haven't done it in a long time'", the Old school actress shared. "If it fails, it fails, but at least I'm trying something new."
