Why ‘The Third Day’ Star Nico Parker’s Mother Thandie Newton Doesn’t Give Her Acting Advice
You'd think Westworld star Thandie Newton and writer and director Ol Parker would be quick to give acting advice to their daughter, Nico Parker.
“They give me advice like 'learn everyone's name and always be nice' and things like that, but when it comes to acting they kind of avoid it because I think they want it to be my own experience for me to learn that Knowing things my own way, ”says Nico Variety from the family home in London.
The 15-year-old British actress made her acting debut in Tim Burton's live-action remake of "Dumbo" last year, but she never specifically told her parents that she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps.
"I auditioned for Dumbo and after that it was kind of a whirlwind. We never had a conversation about 'So this is what you want to do," says Nico. "It just happened more and now you are forced to do it to accept. But they support me incredibly. I am so happy that you are and that you appreciate what I do. "
She is currently starring in HBO's new mystery thriller "The Third Day" as one of the daughters of Naomie Harris. Harris' character takes their children on a surprise vacation to a remote island that turns out to be shrouded in darkness and inhabited by unwelcome locals. It was shot on location on Osea Island outside of London. "There is one dam that is constantly closed [because it is flooded with sea water] so you are trapped there most of the time and we lived on set because it is not very big," says Nico. “In fact, one of the houses they show was that I lived in it. I remember taking a bath one day and hearing her filming right outside. It was really close by. "

While Nico says she hopes to one day fulfill her dream of being a waitress in an Italian restaurant after watching her older sister Ripley wait for tables, she has found her passion in acting. She finds inspiration when other biracial actors are successful, especially Zendaya.
“It's just incredibly important to have this kind of representation in all facets of the media, people in all colors. It kind of reminds everyone that we are all beautiful, ”says Nico. “I can look up to someone like Zendaya with a background similar to mine. It's really heartwarming, but there have been so many people who haven't seen this because they've only seen people so different from them. The standard of beauty was so far from what they looked. It is so wonderful that young girls and boys can now grow up with all kinds of representation. "
In fact, Nico texted Zendaya on Emmy Night last month when she was starring in "Euphoria." "I sent her a message and she responded and it was just an incredible moment in my life," she says. "She's a powerhouse. She's so cool."

As for working with her mother, Nico hopes that her father will “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again “will write something for you and lead the project. "My mother and I keep coming up with these crazy ideas for TV shows and movies that we always put out at dinner with him and that he doesn't always love," says Nico. “But sometimes he finds you interesting. It's only a matter of time. If not, I'll write something for myself and my mother. "
