Wife of Pennsylvania's Lt. Governor called racist slur at grocery store
The Pennsylvania lieutenant governor's wife said she faced a racist verbal attack in a grocery store on Sunday.
Gisele Barreto Fetterman, the wife of Democratic Governor John Fetterman, said the incident happened when she was buying kiwifruit near her home outside of Pittsburgh.
"I ran to the local grocery store and was hit and abused by this woman who repeatedly told me I don't belong here," she wrote on Twitter.

Fetterman is a Brazilian immigrant who was previously undocumented. The short video she posted about part of the incident shows an unidentified woman pulling down her mask in a parking lot and calling Fetterman the N word. Fetterman recorded the moment in her car, but said the attack started at the store after the woman recognized her.
"She said," There's this N-word that Fetterman married. You don't belong here. Nobody wants you here. You don't belong here, ”Fetterman told the Washington Post. "The fact that she felt so comfortable and brave to face me with an audience ... that was really scary."
"It was a very long time to really live in the shadows and be afraid of every knock on the door," she said of her time as an undocumented immigrant. “Then to be in a place where I am so grateful that I can vote and that I am called to the jury and can finally belong to this country that I love so much - and then have these moments in which I can keep feeling completely unwelcome and scared. "
On Twitter, Fetterman, whose husband was elected in 2018, said the incident was an example of division in her state and across the country.
“This behavior and this hatred are taught. If you know her, if she is your neighbor or relative, please teach her love instead, ”she wrote.
Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey tweeted his support for Fetterman, writing on Sunday night, "It's up to us to teach our children kindness, acceptance and inclusion, and to judge hatred whenever and wherever we see him."
