Will Smith Says His Divorce from Sheree Fletcher Was 'the Worst Thing in My Adult Life'

Will Smith becomes honest about his divorce from his first wife, Sheree Fletcher.
In an exclusive clip from PEOPLE from the Father's Day episode of Red Watch Talk by Facebook Watch, the actor sat down for a face-to-face conversation with his wife and host Jada Pinkett Smith, discussing his son's upbringing with Fletcher, Trey, 27, touched.
"I want to talk about an interesting concept that you've raised quite a bit about Trey and divorce - and the idea that just because a man may not be the best husband doesn't mean that he's not a good man. Father" said Pinkett Smith, 48 years old.

51-year-old Smith said, "It was a really difficult time with Sheree and Trey. Divorce was the worst thing in my adult life, divorce was the ultimate failure for me."
"I've been hurt a lot in my adult life, but I don't think anything affects the failure to divorce my 2-year-old mother," he added.

Smith and Fletcher (née Zampino) married in 1992 and divorced in 1995. The actor married Pinkett Smith in 1997 and the couple have two children: son Jaden (21) and daughter Willow (19).
Fletcher appeared in the Red Table Talk debut episode in May 2018, in which she and Pinkett Smith discussed how they developed a good relationship despite initial struggles.

"Do you remember the conversation we once had on the phone?" Pinkett Smith asked Fletcher. "You were fighting with words."
Fletcher said she called the house to speak to Trey, then three, when the Girls Trip star answered the phone.
Fletcher admitted that she wasn't "respectful" when she called, and Pinkett Smith didn't take her attitude kindly.
"You basically let me know, 'I don't really appreciate your tone,'" she recalled. "And you hung up."
When Fletcher called back, things only escalated.
"I happened to say," B - you live in the house I chose, "said Fletcher." You said, 'It's my house now.' "

Pinkett Smith said things had gotten so hot that her husband had to intervene.
"Will Smith gave it to me," said Pinkett Smith. "His opinion was: 'This is Trey's mother and this is simply not your place.'"
And it seems that his words have really penetrated. Fletcher said the next time the women saw each other, they were trying to improve their relationship.
"You would always say Re, I apologize," said Fletcher. "You always owned it. Thanks for that."
