With conservative views, Kanye West 'not alone' among Black Americans: professor

A black political science professor in Massachusetts noted that Kanye West's anti-Black Lives Matter position carries more weight in black communities than some might realize.
West claimed Black Lives Matter was a "scam" and also apparently credited the "end" of the movement just a day after wearing a White Lives Matter shirt at his Yeezy runway show in Paris.
Tatishe M. Nteta, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, warns that while West's message is far removed from the mainstream, his views are being reflected in a segment of the black community.

West shared in a since-deleted Instagram story, "Everyone knows Black Lives Matter was a scam. Now it's (sic) over. You are welcome."
Nteta led a poll in May that found public support for the Black Lives Matter movement has already fallen from 48% to 31%.

"Kanye West in some ways expresses a sentiment that some aspects and segments of the American public believe and support," Nteta told the Daily Mail. "But at the same time, Kanye West has expressed very conservative views over the past few years. In a way, that's not surprising.”

The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation has come under scrutiny for how it has been managing its finances. A lawsuit filed in August on behalf of 26 grassroots BLM organizations alleges that the head of the national organization siphoned $10 million in charitable donations to pay for his own personal expenses.
