Woman held on $1 million bail after allegedly dressing as nurse to steal baby from hospital

A woman is being held on $1 million bail after allegedly disguising herself as a nurse and gaining access to a hospital maternity ward to steal a baby.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 14, when Moreno Valley California Sheriff's Deputies were briefed by hospital officials at Riverside University Health System - Medical Center about an alleged "person posing as a nurse on campus," they said the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in a press release.

Authorities said the suspect - later named 23-year-old Jesenea Miron of Moreno Valley, California - allegedly entered the hospital posing as a newly hired nurse and was able to gain access to the medical unit where all newborns were housed babies were cared for.
"The woman entered a patient's hospital room and identified herself as a nurse," the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said. "While she was in the patient's room, she attempted to take her newborn child."

It is unclear what security measures were in place at the hospital and how Moreno was able to gain access to the maternity ward.
Moreno was eventually confronted by hospital workers, who immediately alerted security to the breach and the alleged kidnapping attempt, authorities say.
"The woman fled the area before she could be apprehended by hospital security or law enforcement," the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said. “Investigators issued a search warrant at the 11000 block of Weber Street in the city of Moreno Valley, where Miron was found and arrested. There were other probative items in the apartment.”

Authorities say Miron was subsequently taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center on kidnapping allegations and is currently being held on $1 million bail.
