Christian Pulisic was substituted at half-time after scoring the United States' first goal of the game against Iran seconds before his clash with goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.
The 38th-minute goal gave USA a 1-0 lead in a game they must win to advance to the knockout stages. Pulisic was able to get his right foot on a ball from Serginho Dest as he rushed towards the Iranian goalkeeper.
Beiranvand's left knee and shin seemed to touch Pulisic's stomach and groin as the two smacked the net. Pulisic lay on the ground in pain after the goal and was unable to celebrate his first World Cup goal.
Pulisic was taken care of by the United States coaching staff and the game was restarted after the coaches moved Pulisic behind the Iranian goal. The game restarted when the USMNT only had 10 players on the field as Pulisic was still being nursed.

Pulisic hobbled to the touchline and for a brief moment it looked like he was about to be substituted. He was able to return to the game minutes later and played the rest of the first half as USA maintained their 1-0 lead but were substituted for Brenden Aaronson at half-time.
