The "oldest living cat in the world" opens a new chapter.
She lived 26 years and 329 days and is almost 120 in human years. And on Thursday, November 24th, Guinness World Records officially recognized her as the world's oldest cat.
"Don't let looks fool you: Flossie may still be as beautiful and playful as a kitten, but she's an elderly lady," Guinness said in a press release.
Flossie the British cat has lived a full life. She was spotted on the street in 1995, living in a cat colony near a hospital.
Hospital workers decided to give everyone a home. Adopted by a hospital worker in December of the same year, Flossie was suddenly "surrounded by love, hot meals and toys," according to Guinness World Records.
The cat lived with this owner for a decade until she died. Then the owner's sister took the cat in.
Flossie loves her favorite yellow blanket.
"Unfortunately, after 14 years in a new home, the cat needed another home when her second owner also passed away," Guinness said. "She was 24 years old at the time."
The previous owner's son took the cat in but decided that he might not have been the best owner for her at the time.
After Flossie lived with him for three years, the son decided to take the cat to volunteers at Cats Protection's Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough and District Branch.
"It wasn't an easy decision," Cats Protection's Naomi Rosling said in the press release. "He sought our help when it was in Flossie's interest. Responsible cat ownership is when someone thinks about their feelings about an animal's needs.”
However, the volunteers were "baffled" by Flossie. They did not believe that the cat was 27 years old.
The brown and black cat is in excellent health for her age. She's "visually impaired and deaf," but she's still playful and undisturbed, her current owner, Vicki Green, told Guinness World Records.
Green met Flossie at the cat shelter. She had experience caring for older cats and welcomed Flossie into her home.
"She was loud for the first few nights because she can't see in the dark and was a bit confused in her new surroundings, but now she sleeps through the night and snuggles in bed with me," Green said.
Flossie has adjusted well to her new chapter. She has a yellow blanket that she loves and she loves to cuddle and nap.
"If I'm in such good shape at her age, with someone who will do what is best for me when I need it most, I will be a very happy woman," Green said.
Flossie could live much longer. According to Guinness World Records, the oldest cat to ever live was a full decade older than Flossie. Born in Texas, Creme Puff lived to be 38 years and three days old.
