Xiaomi is the next big phone brand to remove the charger from the box

Apple isn't the only big brand to remove the charger from the packaging of their latest flagship phone. As noted on Reddit, Xiaomi has announced that the upcoming Mi 11 phone will not include a charger. The reason is known. Many people already have old chargers on hand, and this answers the need for a “greener” device with less waste and smaller packaging.
Xiaomi said there would be a conference on December 28th to discuss the decision. It is recognized that the choice would be "unreasonable" for some potential buyers.
Critics have already blown up the move. While there is an environmental rationale for shipping fewer chargers, it also helps Xiaomi save money. It can hold or increase its profit margins, especially for customers who buy an official charger. This can include people who already have chargers. You can only really take advantage of fast charging if you have a compatible adapter.
The exclusion won't be a big deal in North America and other places where Xiaomi has limited audiences. However, it could easily set the stage for what is to come. Between this one and Samsung, who reportedly skipped the charger with the Galaxy S21, there's a real chance you'll have to make an effort in 2021 to find a handset (at least a high-end handset) with an included Power Brick.
