Rock Hill's Justin Valdez was charged Monday on the death of Teresa Hewetson.
Rock Hill police issued a second warrant for arrest against Valdez, 19, Tuesday, accusing him of the ruthless murder of Donald Hewtson's death, Chavis said. Valdez was released from jail late Monday on $ 50,000 bail after being arrested on the first ruthless murder charge.
Valdez drove an Infiniti sedan around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Chavis said the car crossed the centerline of Celanese Road into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Chevrolet SUV driven by Teresa Hewetson. Donald Hewetson was a passenger, police said.
Four other people were injured in the accident, including a young passenger in Valdez 'car and three people in a third vehicle, police said.
Valdez's attorney, Montrio Belton of Rock Hill, said Tuesday morning that he and Valdez were aware of the second death and the second charges against Valdez.
"Mr. Valdez is aware of the second warrant and intends to face law enforcement," Belton said. Valdez trusts our justice system and believes that the truth of this terrible accident and unimaginable tragedy will be known in due course. Mr Valdez extends his condolences to the family. "
Belton didn't discuss the crash.
According to Belton and court records, Valdez has no previous convictions.
Matthew Shelton, assistant attorney for the 16th Circle, confirmed Valdez was charged with a second charge of reckless murder but declined to consider the case.
