The 2020-21 NHL season finally has an official start date and format, but the Boston Bruins still have questions.
One of the biggest is the future of Zdeno Chara.
The longtime defender and captain of the Bruins is still an unreserved free agent. So what's the latest update on its status?

"The Bruins have been very communicative with us about how they see things developing," Chara's agent Matt Keator told The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun on Sunday. "Now that we know the format of the season, we will examine Z's options for the future."
There are several reasons to bring Chara back.
From a hockey standpoint, the Bruins definitely need his help on the blue line. We know Chara is no longer a Norris Trophy defender, but he's still a good defensive player who can kill penalties and play a smart, physical game.
Let's not forget that a few months ago the Bruins lost top four defender Torey Krug in their own hands and didn't replace him with anyone. The team seems content with allowing their younger players and prospects to fight for a longer ice age. Given the team's position, this isn't a bad strategy, but adding Chara's veteran presence and leadership would be an asset to the group as a whole.
The Bruins have a little less than $ 3 million in salary caps per CapFriendly. Chara's one-year deal last season had a $ 2 million cap hit.
